A Method to the Budgeting Madness

Think of learning to stick to a budget, like training for a fitness goal. If you want to run a marathon, you’ll put together a training plan that suits your unique personality and schedule. Right?

Ditto with financial planning.

To make and stick to a budget, you’ll need to develop new habits and routines. Pick tools and approaches that work for you, so you’ll stick with it.

Your mobile addiction might make an app your budget tool of choice. There are many websites and software packages to choose from, too. Buck authority and build a spreadsheet of your own devising. You might even prefer plain old paper and pencil. It’s all good.

Likewise, if your Type A personality thrills to a detailed, down-to-the-penny approach, go for it. If you like a broad category, big picture allocation—do it your way.

Whatever method you choose, the most important thing is to do it. Learn, try and tweak your budget until it works for you.
