Mike serves as the Director of Operations for the USAA Educational Foundation (USAAEF), a 501c3 nonprofit sponsored by USAA. In this role, he leads the Foundation’s operations and risk functions, overseeing the production of financial education content, day-to-day operations of the Foundation and partnerships across the Department of Defense, our nonprofit partners and USAAEF owned channels. Additionally, Mike serves as the Operations and Risk Officer for the USAA Foundation and USAA Educational Foundation Board of Governors.

Prior to this role, he served as Director Business Risk and Control in P&C after spending six years in Corporate Communications as an EOPM, Operations Director and interim AVP Strategy and Operations. He joined USAA in 2016 and brings over 30 years of experience in operations, risk management and leadership. Prior to joining USAA, he served over 22 years in the United States Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer, completing five deployments across tours on seven different ship classes. On shore duty he served as an Operational Test Director, Acquisitions Advisor and finished his military career as Commanding Officer of Naval Recruiting District San Antonio.

Mike supports transitioning veterans/spouses by volunteering as a mentor with American Corporate Partners and other similar organizations. He and his wife Sonya spending their free time working out, watching movies and attending sporting events in support of their three children.

Mike has earned a Bachelor’s in Accounting from Norfolk State University, an Executive MBA from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Master’s in Enterprise Risk Management from Columbia University along with an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Leadership from Duke University.
